If you’re an individual or business in Morocco, you’ve likely come across the term “dotation” – a specific allowance for spending in foreign currency.
But what happens when you need to make payments for foreign services for your company? Do companies have an allowance too? Let’s delve into the details.
Understanding the Crucial Separation
Before we get into the specifics, it’s essential to know that there are two types of spending in foreign currency according to Moroccan law:
- Offline: This covers in-person travel expenses – anything you physically buy while traveling.
- Online: This includes any online transactions, such as hotel bookings.
So, why the separation?
Moroccan companies, unfortunately, do not receive an allowance for online payments; it’s reserved only for offline transactions. A bit frustrating, but fear not, there are workarounds!
How to Pay for Online Expenses with Your Company
Even though you can’t directly pay for online expenses using your company, there’s a workaround: pay for it yourself and then seek reimbursement.

Another option involves applying for a “Jeune Entreprise Innovante” status, but it comes with stringent criteria, including a five-year existence and obscure metrics – not the most straightforward path. I do not recommend it.
While using your funds for these services, remember that you have a yearly allowance too, as detailed in this post.
How to Pay for Travel Expenses with Your Company
This one’s a breeze.
As per the 2024 finance law, every company can receive up to a 100,000 MAD allowance annually for travel expenses.
To access it, visit your bank with Model J and last year’s tax filing. Each bank may have specific requirements, so be prepared.
Once you’ve done that, they’ll provide access to an account for your foreign spending.
Simple as that!
