Working remotely requires more than just a laptop and a cozy corner; it demands a rock-solid Internet connection.

If you’re not sure about the local offers, this post provides an idea about the current offerings and my current setup, carefully curated for stability and reliability after multiple trials and errors.

Main connection: Fiber

After a series of experiments with 4G boxes, ADSL, and various solutions, stability guided me to the world of fiber.

I’m currently using a 100 MB fiber line from Maroc Télécom as my primary connection. The speed might sound low, but it’s completely fine for video calls and online collaboration.

Downloading something might take a while if you’re used to extreme speeds abroad, but it should be fine.

Pro tip: Before picking any Internet Service Provider (ISP), check with your neighbors to discover the best one in your area. Fiber quality can vary by city and neighborhood.

Cost: 500dh/month

Backup: Generous 4G Data plan

For those rare moments when the fiber decides to play hide-and-seek, I’ve got a trusty backup. A 50 GB data plan from Inwi (a local ISP).

This also serves as the perfect solution for tethering in coffee shops, where relying on their WiFi might not be the best idea.

Cost: 200dh/month. Note: This price is for companies, if you want it for individuals, you can get it even cheaper from win.ma.

Second backup: Another 4G Data plan

If you work or travel to small cities, you’ll need a data plan from Maroc Télécom as they have better coverage. Otherwise, in big cities, all ISPs are the same.

Cost: 69dh/month

Summary

Total Monthly Cost: 769dh/month

Yes, it might seem costly, but when you’re working remotely, a solid Internet setup is non-negotiable!

As a final note, everything on this list is a company expense.
