The best companies you can work for remotely

When it comes to remote working. There are a lot of companies out there. But when deciding to go remote, one should choose wisely. You don’t want a company using “remote working” as an excuse to make you work all day. Or a company monitoring all your moves…

I have a list of the best companies I keep an eye on to learn more about their culture and products. And today, I’ll be sharing them with you. They are the best companies taking into account the culture, the processes, and the mission/product.

Without further ado, here are the best distributed/remote companies out there for me:

Basecamp

Basecamp is the company behind Basecamp, the project management tool for teams. And the new email tool Hey. The whole company works remotely.

Basecamp’s CEO Jason Fried and CTO DHH are well known in the remote community. In fact, they wrote the Remote: Office not required book. Alongside other remote-work related books.

When it comes to compensation, Basecamp takes the lead. They are paying Silicon Valley salaries for everyone, anywhere.

The downside is they don’t have a lot of job openings. So keep an eye on their jobs page, or subscribe to get the latest offers in your email.

Stripe

Stripe is the company powering payments around the internet. They are on a mission to increase the GDP of the Internet. The company has offices but open to remote working too.

Stripe is known for their passion for the craft and the quality of their products. They are an online payment processing platform for internet businesses.

The products they offer are ranging from APIs to accept payments. To physical credit cards. Passing by fraud detection.

Shopify

Shopify is a platform for e-commerce businesses. The company has offices but also open to remote working.

The Shopify platform makes it easy to create an online e-commerce website and selling your merchandise. It is the most used platform for e-commerce in the world.

Automattic

This is the company I work for, so I’ll try to not be biased 🙂

Automattic is the company behind WordPress.com, Tumblr, WooCommerce, SimpleNote, and other products. The whole company works remotely.

WordPress is the most used CMS on the Internet. At the time of writing this, WordPress is powering 36% of the Internet. The site you’re reading now is using WordPress 🙂

Doist

Doist is a company building productivity tools like Todoist and TwistApp. Their product Todoist is a todo list app to get things done. The whole company works remotely.

GitLab

GitLab is the company behind GitLab the product. It’s an all-in-one platform for DevOps and code versioning. They are considered to be the direct competitors of GitHub. The whole company works remotely.

Netlify

Netlify is an all-in-one platform for web projects. It offers hosting, automation, authentication, testing, etc. The company has offices but also open to remote working.

Netlify is my go-to tool for deploying my web projects. My project 1% for learning is on Netlify.

Buffer

Buffer offers social media tools to schedule, analyze, and engage with your audience. The whole company works remotely.

Buffer is an open company. They share the salaries of all their employees. And provides a salary calculator.
